L-Citrulline: A Non-Essential Amino Acid with Important Roles in Human Health

چکیده
L-Arginine (Arg) has been widely used due to its functional properties as a substrate for nitric oxide (NO) generation. However, L-citrulline (CIT), whose main natural source is watermelon, non-essential amino acid but which important health potential. This review provides comprehensive approach different studies of the endogenous synthesis CIT, metabolism, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics well ergogenic effect in exercise performance. The novel aspect this paper focuses on effects citrulline malate CIT from sources such watermelon several topics, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, erectile dysfunction, cancer, could be food-sourced substitute pharmacological products therefore consumption fruit promoted.

L-Carnitine: therapeutic applications of a conditionally-essential amino acid.
A trimethylated amino acid roughly similar in structure to choline, carnitine is a cofactor required for transformation of free long-chain fatty acids into acylcarnitines, and for their subsequent transport into the mitochondrial matrix, where they undergo beta-oxidation for cellular energy production. Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation is the primary fuel source in heart and skeletal muscle, p...
متن کاملCitrulline: just a biomarker or a conditionally essential amino acid and a pharmaconutrient in critically ill patients?
Low plasma citrulline levels have been associated with a reduction of functional gut mass in various clinical situations. In critically ill patients, citrulline variations are tricky to interpret because of sepsis, vascular abnormalities, and multiple organ failure. In the previous issue of Critical Care, Ware and colleagues made an important contribution by demonstrating that very low citrulli...
متن کاملAn increase in essential amino acid availability upregulates amino acid transporter expression in human skeletal muscle.
Essential amino acids (EAA) stimulate skeletal muscle mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) signaling and protein synthesis. It has recently been reported that an increase in amino acid (AA) transporter expression during anabolic conditions is rapamycin-sensitive. The purpose of this study was to determine whether an increase in EAA availability increases AA transporter expression in...
متن کاملReview: Taurine: A “very essential” amino acid
Taurine is an organic osmolyte involved in cell volume regulation, and provides a substrate for the formation of bile salts. It plays a role in the modulation of intracellular free calcium concentration, and although it is one of the few amino acids not incorporated into proteins, taurine is one of the most abundant amino acids in the brain, retina, muscle tissue, and organs throughout the body...
متن کاملDietary Formulation with Poultry by-Product Meal on a Total Amino Acid vs. a Digestible Amino Acid Basis
Previous results indicated that performance of chicks fed a high level (10%) of poultry by-product meal(PBM) was lower than performance of chicks fed a corn-soybean meal (SBM) diet. The latter difference was hypothesized to be due to variation in digestible amino acid (AA) levels among the diets. This study evaluated diets containing PBM formulated on equivalent total AA basis vs. an equivalent...
